NC Revives Demand for J&K Special Status
The National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir has decided to focus again on restoring the special status that the region once had.
This decision came after the party lost a recent election in Budgam, which was a big surprise because the area had been supporting the NC for a long time.
The party's leaders met and said that bringing back the special status is very important for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
They also want the Indian government to give the region full statehood, as it was promised.
There are some disagreements within the party, especially with a leader named Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, who has been criticizing the party's strategies.
However, the NC decided not to take any action against him to avoid further problems.
The party is facing a lot of pressure and wants to make sure it stays popular among the people.
Additionally, a new NC member in the Rajya Sabha, Chowdry Mohammed Ramzan, raised concerns about the limited powers of the elected government in J&K, stating that the authority remains concentrated in the hands of the Lieutenant Governor.
NC's working committee reaffirmed commitment to restoring J&K's special status.
The decision follows a recent election loss in Budgam, a traditionally NC-supporting area.
NC demands immediate restoration of full statehood to J&K, as promised by the Indian government.
Internal party disagreements exist, notably with Aga Ruhullah Mehdi criticizing the party's strategies.
NC decided not to take action against Mehdi to avoid further political complications.
