It has banned single-use plastic bottles at its sports complexes.
The authority says workers have collected about 2.5 tonnes of waste from sports facilities.
Water dispensers and new bins have been added to help people avoid plastic bottles and sort their rubbish.
Signs also remind people not to litter.
The campaign includes planting trees and looking after public toilets.
Children, students, park users and resident groups are taking part.
The authority says people need to keep helping after the campaign ends.
