Don't plant paddy in haste, Wanaparthy DC warns farmers

In Wanaparthy, a district officer named Surabhi spoke to farmers at a special meeting.

He told them not to rush into planting paddy, the crop that gives us rice.

He said waiting is important because a weather pattern called El Niño might bring much less rain soon.

This year the area has already received less rain than it had by this time last year.

With so little rain, there may not be enough water for paddy fields.

The officer suggested growing crops that need less water, like groundnut, vegetables and oil palm.

The government is giving farmers money to grow vegetables and oil palm.

Some farmers like paddy because it earns a good price and is easier to grow.

They asked the government to also give good seeds and fair prices for the new crops.

The idea is to grow food wisely so there is enough water for everyone.
