NIA Challenges Sachin Waze Bail in Antilia Case
The NIA says Sachin Waze planned the 2021 explosives scare near Antilia.
The agency says he wanted to take charge of the investigation and be praised for solving it.
It also accuses him of killing Mansukh Hiran, who it says might have revealed the plan.
These are allegations made by the NIA.
A special court granted Waze bail on September 29.
The NIA is asking the Bombay High Court to cancel that decision.
The High Court has temporarily kept the bail on hold until Thursday.
Waze remains in Thane Central Prison.
The NIA told the Bombay High Court that Sachin Waze orchestrated the 2021 Antilia bomb scare to restore his reputation and appear to solve the case.
The agency alleged Waze arranged for an explosives-laden SUV to be found near Antilia and then took charge of the investigation.
The NIA further alleged Waze killed businessman Mansukh Hiran because he feared Hiran could expose the conspiracy.
The agency asked the High Court to overturn a special court’s September 29 bail order, calling it flawed in fact and law.
The High Court extended its interim stay on Waze’s bail until Thursday; Waze was arrested on March 13, 2021, and remains in Thane Central Prison.
