India Proposes 90-Day Work Rule for Gig Workers' Benefits
The Indian government has proposed new rules that say gig workers, like delivery people and drivers, need to work for at least 90 days in a year to get benefits like health insurance.
If they work for more than one company, they need to work 120 days.
They must register with their Aadhaar card.
There will be a board to decide on more benefits and rules.
Workers will stop getting benefits when they turn 60 or if they don't work enough days.
Some people are worried that the new rules might make workers work longer hours, which could be bad for their health.
Others think the rules are a good start but need more details on how workers can get their benefits.
Gig and platform workers must work 90 days with one aggregator or 120 days with multiple to get benefits.
Workers must be Aadhaar-linked and registered to be eligible for benefits.
Benefits include health, life, and personal accident insurance, with potential pension eligibility.
A National Social Security Board will be formed to assess worker numbers and formulate welfare policies.
Workers become ineligible for benefits at age 60 or if they don't meet the work day requirements.
