Mumbai Birthday Airgun Firing on Road: 10 Booked, Accused Detained
A man named Akash Gupta had a birthday party very late at night in Mumbai, India.
He and his friends celebrated in the middle of a public road.
They put cakes on the bonnet, or front hood, of a parked car and cut them there.
The group made a lot of noise and blocked traffic.
One of the friends fired a baby airgun, a small air-powered gun, and it made a loud noise that scared people nearby.
Nobody called the police because people in the area were too frightened.
The police saw a video of the party on social media and decided to take action on their own.
Ten people were booked, and the main person police identified was detained.
The police said all the accused are educated and most work in the pharma sector, and none of them had been in trouble with the law before.
The police are still investigating what happened.
Police registered a case against 10 people after a baby airgun was fired during a birthday celebration on a public road in Borivali West, Mumbai, around 12:30 am on August 5.
The group allegedly blocked the road near Gharkul Co-operative Housing Society, Gorai 2, and cut cakes on the bonnet of a black Innova car, obstructing traffic.
Reports differ on the shooter: one says main accused Jatin Sharma fired the airgun, while another says the airgun belonged to Sharma but Vijesh Upadhyay fired it.
Police took suo motu action after seeing the incident on social media, saying locals were too terrified to complain.
Police said none of the accused, who are educated and mostly work in the pharma sector, had a criminal record, and no political connection was found despite celebrant Akash Gupta's photos with political party members.
