Mass Killing of Stray Dogs in Telangana
In January 2026, more than 600 stray dogs were allegedly killed in villages in Kamareddy district, Telangana.
This happened in places like Palvancha and Fareedpet.
The police think some newly elected village leaders might have done this to keep promises they made during village elections.
Animal lovers are very upset and have asked the police to take strong action.
The police have started investigating and are looking at where the dogs were buried.
They are trying to find out who did this and why.
The villagers say they did this because the dogs were causing problems, like biting people.
But animal rights activists say it was cruel and illegal.
Over 600 stray dogs were allegedly killed in Kamareddy district, Telangana, within a week in January 2026.
The killings occurred in Palvancha mandal headquarters and villages of Fareedpet, Bandaram Eshwarpally, Bhavanipet, and Wadi.
Animal rights activists lodged a complaint at the Machareddy Police Station, and a case has been registered.
Police are investigating the incident, including conducting site inspections and identifying locations where dogs were buried.
Animal welfare groups have demanded stringent action against those responsible and stricter enforcement of animal protection laws.
