Congress Vows to Continue Nandigram Campaign After Candidate Arrest

Congress Vows to Continue Nandigram Campaign After Candidate Arrest

The Congress party is running in an election in Nandigram.

Its candidate, Milan Pradhan, was arrested on Friday.

The arrest relates to several cases from 2007.

Congress leaders are waiting for the court’s decision about whether he will remain in custody.

The party says it will not stop its campaign if he is jailed.

Congress leader Subhankar Sarkar said many supporters would campaign in Pradhan’s place.

They would also hand out leaflets to voters.

Another candidate, Sanchita Pradhan, withdrew from the election.

The Nandigram bypoll is scheduled for October 6.
