First Images Reveal Flash Flood Devastation Along Tibet-Nepal Border

On August 26, a glacier and rocks collapsed near the Nepal-Tibet border.

This sent a huge wave of water, mud, and stones down a valley.

The wave destroyed a border immigration building and damaged nearby communities.

More than 1,300 people died in Nepal, and about 5,000 were still missing.

Chinese officials reported 31 deaths and 531 missing people in Tibet.

The missing people included citizens from several countries, including India.

Scientists found that the debris traveled 22 kilometers in only seven minutes.

Chinese officials warned that warming conditions may make some glaciers less stable.

They said future disasters could become larger when ice, rocks, water, and mud combine.
