Bengal SIR Dispute Deepens Over Voter Appeals and Tribunals

The Election Commission is asking for 42 tribunals during a voter-list exercise in Bengal.

The Trinamool Congress says the process unfairly targets its party.

TMC spokesperson Anirban Banerjee made this accusation.

He said almost 90% of people left off the list had appealed.

He also said tribunals had cleared more than 90% of the appeals they considered.

The TMC says this shows the process is unfair.

It accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to gain an advantage through the Election Commission.

The article does not include a response from the BJP or the Election Commission.
