MP Government Imposes Conditions on 50% Road Tax Rebate
The Madhya Pradesh government is making it harder to get a big discount on road tax for cars bought at trade fairs in Gwalior and Ujjain.
Before, people could get a 50% discount by registering their cars at these fairs, even if they bought them elsewhere.
Now, the government says only dealers with special licenses can offer this discount.
They also have to take pictures of the cars with special tags to make sure the discount is only for cars sold at the fairs.
The government is doing this because they lost a lot of money last year from giving these discounts.
Some people in the government don't want to give the discount this time, but others are making them do it.
Madhya Pradesh government imposes conditions on 50% road tax rebate at Gwalior and Ujjain trade fairs.
Dealers must have a trade licence to offer the rebate.
Geo-tagging of vehicle photographs is required to verify sales at the fairs.
Transport department incurred a loss of Rs 220 crore last year from the rebate.
Government aims to reduce projected losses of up to Rs 250 crore this year.
