GVMC Struggles with Stray Dog Relocation Orders
The Supreme Court ordered cities to move stray dogs away from schools, hospitals, and other important places.
In Visakhapatnam, the city government is having a hard time doing this.
They found about 200,000 stray dogs and need to move them to shelters.
But they don't have enough workers or places to keep the dogs.
Some schools and hospitals say it's not fair to ask them to build fences.
A animal care expert suggested making a plan to catch, control, and vaccinate the dogs.
GVMC identified 200,000 stray dogs in Visakhapatnam and 1,362 institutions to clear.
GVMC asked zonal commissioners to issue notices for fencing and identify land for shelters.
GVMC lacks trained staff, ABC plan, shelter management, and quarantine facilities.
Private institutions argue against being asked to fence their premises.
Pradeep Nath suggested a monitoring committee for dog catching and vaccination.
