Mayawati’s Key Aides Shape BSP Amid Succession Turmoil
Mayawati leads the Bahujan Samaj Party, or BSP.
The party is facing disagreements about who might lead it in the future.
Mayawati recently said that her nephews, Akash Anand and Ishan Anand, would not hold party positions.
She has also changed their responsibilities several times.
Eight senior aides continue to help her run the party.
Her brother Anand Kumar advises her and has been given more organisational work.
Other aides handle legal matters, communications, elections, regional work and voter outreach.
The BSP is trying to rebuild before the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
It won only one Uttar Pradesh Assembly seat in 2022 and no Lok Sabha seat there in 2024.
Mayawati has barred nephews Akash Anand and Ishan Anand from holding BSP party positions.
Anand Kumar, Mayawati’s brother and the nephews’ father, remains a trusted adviser with expanded organisational duties.

Mewalal Gautam, Arvind Kumar Gautam, Sridhar and Ramji Gautam manage communications, events, regional affairs and parliamentary strategy.
