10th-Century Inscriptions, Hero Stones Found in Karnataka Farm
Imagine farmers digging in their fields and finding old, old messages carved into stone!
In a village in India, they found writings and pictures from about 1,000 years ago.
These were in two languages, like finding notes from people who lived a long, long time ago.
The messages talk about what life was like back then – how they called the village by different names, and even stories of brave people fighting to protect their cows from thieves.
The people also found an old temple that had been hidden for many years.
Now, experts are studying these old messages to learn even more about what happened way back when.
10th-century inscriptions and hero stones were found in a Chamarajanagar village.
The inscriptions are in both Tamil and Kannada scripts.
The Kannada inscriptions refer to the village as Yeramagumba, while Tamil inscriptions call it Yeramaigumba.
One inscription describes a land grant, another details a battle to protect cattle from theft.
A small Shiva temple was also uncovered on the farmer's land.
