BRICS Adopts New Delhi Declaration, Rejects Tariffs and Sanctions

BRICS countries met in India and agreed on a document called the New Delhi Declaration.

They said countries should not use tariffs or other trade barriers that break World Trade Organization rules.

They also opposed sanctions imposed without approval from the United Nations Security Council.

The countries warned that nuclear tensions and armed conflicts are growing.

They asked countries to prevent conflicts by talking and using diplomacy.

They urged all sides in West Asia to protect civilians and avoid making the fighting worse.

They also said peaceful nuclear facilities must be protected during wars.

BRICS condemned the April 2025 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

The group supported giving India and Brazil a larger role at the United Nations, including permanent Security Council seats.
