Market-linked horticulture aims to raise Annamayya farmers’ incomes
Annamayya district wants to help farmers earn more from fruit and other horticulture crops.
The plan connects growing crops with storing, processing and selling them.
Farmers may get help with irrigation, planting materials, training and equipment.
Groups of farmers can share facilities through farmer organisations.
Fruit trees can take several years to produce, so farmers will be encouraged to grow quicker crops in the meantime.
Storage and processing facilities can help reduce losses and improve how crops are sold.
The work is planned in phases from 2026–27 to 2028–29.
The main measure of success will be whether farmers receive more stable and sustainable income.
Annamayya district is planned as an integrated hub for producing, processing and marketing high-value horticulture crops.
Support for small and marginal farmers will include micro-irrigation, quality planting material, technical guidance and organised market links.
Intercropping and short-duration crops are intended to provide income while fruit orchards mature, generally beginning to yield from the third year.
The initiative prioritises aggregation, grading, packhouses, cold chains, processing and organised markets to improve value realisation and reduce distress sales.
Phase I to Phase III, from 2026–27 to 2028–29, will develop the ecosystem, with progress assessed by stable, sustainable farmer income.
