UP Minister: Centre Solely Controls MGNREGA Wage Hikes
Imagine a program called MGNREGA that gives people jobs in rural areas.
The government pays these workers a certain amount of money each day, like Rs 252 in Uttar Pradesh.
Recently, a minister in Uttar Pradesh said that only the main government in the country, not the state, can decide to pay the workers more money.
This was said during a meeting where people ask questions about important issues.
So, if the workers' wages need to go up, it's the central government that has to make that happen.
Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Rural Development stated that only the Central government can increase MGNREGA wages.
The current daily wage for MGNREGA workers in Uttar Pradesh is Rs 252.
The statement was made during the state Assembly's Question Hour.
