Karnataka Dominates Electronics Fund with 70% of Startups
The Indian government has a special fund called the Electronics Development Fund, or EDF, to help new technology companies grow.
Most of the companies that get money from this fund are in the state of Karnataka, and almost all of those are in the city of Bengaluru.
Bengaluru companies have attracted a lot of money—about 64% of all the money the EDF has given out.
The EDF works by giving money to other investment funds, which then give money to the startups.
By the end of February 2026, the EDF and its partner funds had given out more than 1,300 crore rupees to 128 companies, created over 22,700 jobs, and helped make more than 300 new inventions.
Karnataka accounts for 70% of startups funded by the Centre's Electronics Development Fund (EDF).
90 of the 128 EDF-backed companies are based in Karnataka, with 89 located in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru startups attracted Rs 854.5 crore, about 64% of the EDF's total investments.
EDF operates as a fund-of-funds, channeling capital through eight daughter funds to support electronics, nanoelectronics, and IT startups.
As of Feb 28, 2026, EDF's eight daughter funds have invested Rs 1,335.77 crore in 128 companies, creating over 22,700 jobs and 300+ IPs.
