RBI's Gold Holdings Reach Record High in FY25
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) bought more gold, increasing its total amount to a record high.
Think of it like a piggy bank getting bigger.
The RBI now holds 879.58 tonnes of gold, which is 7% more than last year.
The value of this gold also went up a lot, by over 50%, because gold prices rose.
The RBI uses gold to help manage the country's money.
This increase, along with other investments, made the RBI's overall finances stronger.
The gold is revalued daily based on the London gold price, which impacts the currency and gold valuation account.
RBI's total gold holdings increased by 7% to 879.58 metric tonnes as of March 31, 2025.
The value of gold, including deposits, increased by 52.09% to ₹6.68 lakh crore.
The Banking Department held 568.20 tonnes of gold, while the Issue Department held 311.38 tonnes.
Foreign exchange reserves increased by 5.95% year-on-year to ₹57.12 lakh crore.
