RTI Activists Demand Reforms in Andhra Pradesh Information Commission
Some people who help citizens get information from the government are asking for changes in how the Andhra Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) works.
They are happy that the commission is now streaming its hearings live online so everyone can watch.
This is a good step towards being open and honest.
However, they also pointed out some problems.
Some commissioners share their decisions online, while others don't, which isn't fair.
They also noted that the commission hasn't released a yearly report since 2014, breaking the law.
The activists want the APIC to be more consistent and transparent in its actions.
RTI activists praised the APIC for launching live streaming of hearings.
UFRTI-AP demanded more reforms in the APIC.
Activists said the live streaming sets a model for other states.
Some commissioners selectively disclose orders passed.
The statutorily mandated Annual Report has not been published since 2014.
