India's Textile Sector Transformation Under Modi
India's textile sector has grown a lot in the last 11 years.
The government has helped farmers by buying more cotton and increasing prices.
They've also improved cotton quality and made it easier for factories to get materials.
New factories and jobs are being created, and India is selling more textiles to other countries.
The goal is to make India a top textile producer in the world, with better pay and conditions for workers.
Cotton procurement by government agencies increased by 173% from 2014 to 2024, reaching 47.3 million bales.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cotton has increased by 108% since 2013-14, reaching ₹7,710 per quintal for 2025-26.
The government launched a ₹2,500 crore Mission for Cotton Productivity to enhance cotton quality and introduced new-age fibres like milkweed.
The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme has attracted significant investments, with 27 new applications received and 42 approved companies in technical textiles.
