Odisha Launches Tribal Language Primers to Promote Education
The government is creating special books, called primers, in the languages of different tribes in Odisha.
These books help kids learn to read and write in their own language from the start of school.
This is part of a plan to help children learn using their native languages.
They are also working on a mission to ensure that every child can read and do basic math by the end of second grade.
This plan is aligned with a big education plan, to make sure kids learn in a way that makes sense to them.
Ministry of Education developed and launched 89 tribal language primers, 15 from Odisha.
Primers support multilingualism, utilizing children’s mother tongues for instruction.
The primers align with NEP-2020, promoting education in native languages.
Languages covered are spoken by at least 10,000 people each.
The initiative aims to ensure foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Grade 2 through NIPUN Bharat.
