RBI Bulk Deposit Disclosures Reshape Banks’ Pricing Competition

RBI Bulk Deposit Disclosures Reshape Banks’ Pricing Competition

The RBI has introduced a new rule for large bank deposits.

These deposits are called bulk deposits and are worth more than ₹3 crore.

Banks must publish their interest rates every morning for a short period.

They must generally offer the same rate to customers and branches on that day.

Some banks had already published their rates, while others had not yet done so.

The rates differed between banks for deposits lasting about three years.

The rule may make competition between banks fairer because everyone can see the prices.

Banks can still use some flexibility based on liquidity rules.
