Army-Adopted Topa Pir Changes After Custodial Deaths

Army-Adopted Topa Pir Changes After Custodial Deaths

Topa Pir is a small village in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

In December 2023, soldiers detained nine villagers after an attack killed four Army personnel.

Three of the villagers died, and the others were treated for serious injuries.

Their families said the men had been tortured.

The Army later helped improve the village with a road, solar lights, a community hall and other services.

Some relatives received jobs, and some children received education support.

A military tribunal upheld disciplinary action against a senior officer.

Many villagers appreciate the improvements but still want a clearer explanation and stronger punishment for what happened.

They say new buildings and roads cannot remove their grief.
