Congress Names New Punjab, Uttar Pradesh Chiefs Ahead Of Polls
The Indian National Congress changed its leaders in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Pargat Singh will lead the party in Punjab.
Aradhana Misra Mona will lead it in Uttar Pradesh.
She replaced Ajay Rai, who had led the state unit since 2023.
The changes happened before the states’ expected 2027 elections.
Mona said the party would challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party over unemployment, inflation, law and order, and the SIR issue.
The Samajwadi Party welcomed the change and suggested working together.
Punjab’s change came after disagreements among Congress leaders.
The Indian National Congress appointed Pargat Singh as its Punjab unit chief after Amarinder Raja Singh Warring resigned.
Aradhana Misra Mona was named Uttar Pradesh Congress chief, replacing Ajay Rai ahead of the 2027 state elections.
Mona is a three-time MLA from Rampur Khas and the daughter of Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari.
Imran Masood was appointed Uttar Pradesh working president, while Devendra Nishad and Alok Prasad became vice presidents.
The Punjab appointment followed infighting involving Warring and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, with Pargat Singh viewed as neutral.
