IHC Lok Sangeet Sammelan Celebrates Pandavani and Pulluvan Pattu
In New Delhi, India, a special music festival took place over two days, named the Lok Sangeet Sammelan.
Musicians came from two faraway parts of India to share their traditions.
Performers from Chhattisgarh presented Pandavani, a Chhattisgarhi folk tradition of telling big epic stories with music and acting.
The festival honored a very famous Pandavani singer named Teejan Bai, who won a great award called the Padma Vibhushan.
Performers from Kerala presented Pulluvan Pattu, ritual music about serpents that is tied to old ceremonies.
They played special instruments like a one-stringed veena, an earthen pot, and cymbals.
The music showed how folk art connects to nature, faith and community.
The festival lasted two days at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
Organizers said such platforms help keep India's old traditions alive.
That way, new generations can enjoy and learn them too.
India Habitat Centre and Anwesha Kala Kendra presented the IHC Lok Sangeet Sammelan 2026 on August 8-9 at the Stein Auditorium in New Delhi.
The opening evening honored Padma Vibhushan awardee Teejan Bai with a Pandavani tribute led by exponent Prabha Yadav.
The second evening featured Kerala's serpent-worship ritual music tradition Pulluvan Pattu, led by Sathyanarayanan P.
Performances used traditional instruments including the single-stringed Pulluvan Veena, earthen-pot Pulluvan Kudam and Ilathalam cymbals.
Organizers said the festival celebrated India's folk heritage and created platforms connecting traditional artists with contemporary audiences.
