One of its most important helpers was a man named Brad Lightcap.
He joined the company in 2018 and helped it grow from a small research lab into a big business.
He took care of money, business deals, and building teams like finance, legal, and partnerships.
Now Brad has decided to leave his job to start something new.
He said the decision was a little sad but also exciting.
The main boss, Sam Altman, said OpenAI could not have gotten where it is today without him.

Sam Altman said Lightcap was among the few who understood the mission when it sounded "totally crazy" and that OpenAI would not be where it is today without him.
