Andhra Pradesh High Court Rejects Reopening 71-Year-Old Land Dispute
There was a big fight over some land in Andhra Pradesh.
One family said they owned 43 acres of land and had the papers to prove it since the 1940s.
Another person said he should own part of that land and asked the government to change the records.
The government first said no, but then later said yes, and the family went to the High Court.
The High Court said that the government can't change old land records after so many years, especially when the family has been using the land without any problems for a long time.
The court said that if the government can change old records whenever they want, it would make everything very confusing and unfair for people who own land.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court ruled that land revenue records cannot be reopened after 71 years.
The dispute involved 43 acres of agricultural land in Julakaluva village, Ananthapuramu district.
The petitioners' family claimed ownership through sale deeds from 1939-1951 and had pattadar passbooks issued in 1988.
A private respondent claimed rights to part of the land in 2014, but the tahsildar and revenue divisional officer rejected the request.
The High Court set aside the joint collector's 2017 order, stating that revenue authorities cannot decide disputed questions of title.
