Metro Railway to Install Anti-Drag Technology in Train Doors to Prevent Accidents
The Metro Railway is adding a new safety feature to its train doors to prevent accidents.
Sometimes, a person's clothes or belongings can get caught as the doors close.
If this happens, the new technology will sense the obstruction and automatically apply the emergency brakes, stopping the train.
This is being done after some passengers were tragically injured or killed when they got stuck in the doors.
The first trains to get this upgrade will be on the Blue Line by next July.
Newer trains with advanced systems will have this safety feature installed right from the beginning.
The goal is to make sure no one gets hurt because of the doors.
Metro Railway is implementing anti-drag technology in its train doors to enhance passenger safety.
The new system is designed to automatically apply emergency brakes if an object or person gets trapped in closing doors.
This initiative was accelerated by past accidents, including a passenger's death in 2019 at Park Street and another in Delhi in December 2023.
Existing trains in Kolkata will be retrofitted with this technology, starting with the Blue Line expected by July next year.
Future train rakes equipped with the CBTC system will incorporate the anti-drag feature from their initial deployment.
