Maharashtra to Decide on Ola, Uber, Rapido Bike Taxis
The government in Maharashtra, India, is thinking about what to do with bike taxi services like Ola, Uber, and Rapido.
They gave these companies temporary permission to operate, but the companies didn't follow all the rules.
For example, they were supposed to use electric bikes, but they used petrol bikes instead.
There were also some bad incidents, like an accident that caused a death and a case where a driver hurt a woman passenger.
Because of these problems, the government has filed 36 complaints against the companies.
Now, they will decide in the next two days what to do about these bike taxi services.
Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced a decision on bike taxi aggregators will be made within two days.
36 police complaints have been filed against Ola, Uber, and Rapido for violating bike taxi rules.
Companies used petrol-powered bikes despite a mandate for e-bikes under Maharashtra Bike Taxi Rules, 2025.
Recent incidents include a passenger death in a bike taxi accident and a molestation case in Kalyan.
The State Transport Authority, chaired by the transport secretary, will make the final decision.
