Indian Private Banks Show Resilience in Q1
Three big private banks in India—ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank—showed strong growth in loans and deposits in the first three months of the financial year.
ICICI Bank had the highest profit growth, while Axis Bank had the strongest deposit growth.
HDFC Bank's profit also increased, but it faced some pressure on its operating profits.
All three banks are focusing on growing their businesses and acquiring more customers rather than just relying on higher interest rates to make more money.
They are also maintaining good asset quality and strong capital positions.
Despite some challenges, the banks are optimistic about the future and expect to keep growing.
ICICI Bank reported the highest profit growth among peers, with a 15.6% rise in core operating profit.
Axis Bank saw the strongest deposit growth at 18% year-on-year, with advances increasing 19%.
HDFC Bank's net interest income rose by 6.67%, but operating profitability faced pressure.
All three banks emphasized customer acquisition, deposit mobilization, and disciplined underwriting as key growth levers.
Strong credit demand across retail, SME, and corporate segments supported earnings despite margin pressures.
