Indian Railways Commissions KAVACH 4.0 on South Central Railway
Indian Railways has started using a newer train safety system called KAVACH 4.0.
It was commissioned for the first time on South Central Railway.
The system covers 108 kilometres between Malkajgiri and Kamareddi.
KAVACH helps trains identify their locations more accurately.
It also gives better information about signals, especially in large railway yards.
The system can communicate between stations and connect with existing signalling equipment.
If a train is going too fast or a driver does not brake when needed, KAVACH can apply the brakes automatically.
This is intended to reduce dangerous signal violations and collision risks.
Indian Railways plans to deploy the system more widely across its network.
KAVACH 4.0 has been commissioned for the first time on South Central Railway.
The upgrade covers 108 route kilometres of the Malkajgiri–Kamareddi section in Hyderabad Division.
The system improves train positioning, signal visibility, communication and signalling integration.
KAVACH can help control train speeds and automatically apply brakes when required.
Indian Railways plans wider deployment after meeting the SIL-4 safety certification requirement.
