Dispute Over Nehru Papers Between BJP and Congress
There is a big discussion about some important papers that belonged to India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
These papers were taken by Sonia Gandhi in 2008.
The government says these papers are very important for the country and should be kept in a museum where everyone can see them.
They have asked Sonia Gandhi to return the papers.
Sonia Gandhi has said she will cooperate and her staff will look into it.
The government has been asking for these papers back for a long time, and they want to make sure that everyone can learn from these historical documents.
The Congress party says the government should focus on more important issues like air pollution and the economy.
Sonia Gandhi took 51 cartons of Jawaharlal Nehru's private papers from the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library (PMML) in 2008.
The government has been requesting the return of these papers, with recent communications in January and July 2025.
Sonia Gandhi has acknowledged having the papers and promised to cooperate with the PMML.
The government argues that these documents are part of the nation's heritage and should be accessible to the public and scholars.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has demanded an apology from the government, citing a parliamentary reply that stated no documents were missing.
