Delhi Proposes Metro Curbs Ahead of October 10 CJP Protest
A youth group called CJP planned a protest in Delhi on October 10.
The protest was about claims of vote theft and problems with electoral rolls.
Police asked the metro company to consider closing gates at 57 stations and running fewer trains.
The proposed changes could start on the night of October 9 and last until things become calm.
The request does not prove that the metro company made those changes.
The government also ordered retail liquor shops to close for two days, and some trains to Delhi were cancelled.
Extra security forces were made available to help police.
A CJP activist said some activists had been detained and that the march would still go ahead.
Delhi Police asked DMRC to consider closing entry and exit gates at 57 stations and reducing train frequency from 9 p.m. October 9 through October 10, until conditions normalise.
Police cited possible unruly crowd movement toward Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations; the request does not confirm DMRC approved or implemented the measures.
The CJP called a youth-led protest over alleged vote theft and electoral-roll irregularities, but police said permission had not been granted.
The Delhi government ordered retail liquor shops closed on October 9 and 10; some trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin on October 10 were also cancelled under a railway order.
The Centre made 221 CAPF companies, around 23,000 personnel, available to Delhi Police from October 8 to 12; CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke alleged activists had been detained and said the march would proceed.

CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke alleged that activists had been detained ahead of the protest and said he would continue the march to Jantar Mantar.
Permission for the gathering

Police said permission was denied because the application arrived only three days before the event and because of rule violations at a previous demonstration.
