Assam Tightens Security Ahead of Independence Day Amid Boycott Calls

In India, there is a special holiday called Independence Day when people celebrate their country's freedom.

Before the holiday, police in the state of Assam worked very hard to keep everyone safe.

They put extra guards around places where people will gather and around important buildings.

They also watched the roads that connect different states.

Some groups called ULFA-I and NSCN/GPRN asked people not to join the celebrations in four states.

These groups did not ask people to stop work this year because there are floods in parts of Assam.

The leader of the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will raise the national flag at a big field in Guwahati.

Other leaders will hold flag-raising ceremonies in other towns.

The police said they are confident the day will pass without any problems.
