Scientists Successfully Predict Solar Storms for Early Warning
Imagine the sun is throwing a giant ball of energy, called a solar storm, towards Earth.
These storms can mess up our electronics.
Scientists have created a new way to see these storms coming!
Using a special spacecraft and a new model called Surya, they can now predict these storms more than 12 hours in advance.
This helps us to be prepared and protect our important technology.
This new method can even show a picture of what the storm will look like, which is a big step forward in keeping Earth safe from the sun's powerful bursts.
Scientists are developing the ability to forecast destructive solar storms.
The Solar Orbiter spacecraft was used in a test of the new prediction method.
The prediction model is named Surya.
Solar storms, or CMEs, can damage satellites and electronics on Earth.
The Surya model showed 16% greater accuracy than conventional models.
