South Korea Finance Chief, BOK Governor Seek Closer Coordination
South Korea’s finance minister met the country’s central bank governor.
They talked about how to make the economy safer and stronger.
They said exports and investment are helping economic growth.
Computer-chip sales are also supporting the economy.
However, people are still facing pressure in their daily lives.
Higher interest rates in other major countries and geopolitical problems could create risks.
The officials said their institutions should communicate more closely.
They want to work together on stable prices, economic growth and financial stability.
Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il met Bank of Korea Gov. Shin Hyun-song on Monday during his first visit to the central bank since taking office.
The two officials agreed that South Korea’s growth is gaining momentum, supported by strong exports and investment amid a semiconductor supercycle.
They also highlighted continuing pressure on people’s livelihoods and external risks, including major-economy interest-rate hikes and geopolitical tensions.
Lee proposed cooperation on won internationalization, digital finance, growth potential and broader sharing of economic benefits.
The officials called for closer communication because financial, foreign exchange and property markets are increasingly interconnected.
