Court Upholds Disqualification of Trump's Lawyer as NJ US Attorney
A court decided that Alina Habba, who used to be Donald Trump's lawyer, cannot be the top lawyer for New Jersey.
The court said this because she was appointed without the Senate's approval, which is required by law.
The court also mentioned that the Trump administration has been having trouble getting its chosen people into important jobs.
This decision means Habba cannot oversee cases in New Jersey, and it might affect how the Trump administration appoints people in the future.
The court said that if the administration's way of appointing people is allowed, it could bypass the usual process of Senate confirmation.
This is the second time a court has ruled against Trump's appointments of US attorneys without Senate confirmation.
The first time, another appointed lawyer was disqualified, and the cases she brought against two of Trump's political opponents were dismissed.
Alina Habba, former personal lawyer of Donald Trump, was disqualified from serving as US Attorney for New Jersey.
A three-judge panel of the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's decision.
The court found that Habba's appointment bypassed the constitutional process of Senate confirmation.
The Trump administration had been trying to keep Habba in the role despite her interim appointment expiring.
This decision is the second time a federal court has ruled against Trump's appointments of US attorneys without Senate confirmation, following a similar ruling against Lindsey Halligan.
