Punjab Police Foils Cross-Border Smuggling Attempts
The Punjab Police, along with the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and the Border Security Force (BSF), stopped two big smuggling attempts.
In one place, they found a lot of heroin, some hand grenades, a gun, and bullets.
In another place, they found more heroin and many pistols.
The smugglers tried to bring these items from Pakistan into India at night, using the fog to hide.
The police and BSF worked together to stop them and found the smuggled items.
The police are still looking for the people who tried to smuggle these items and are investigating to find out more about the smugglers and their network.
The police have also started legal action against the smugglers.
Punjab Police, VDCs, and BSF seized 42.98 kg of heroin, 4 hand grenades, a pistol, 46 live .30 bore cartridges, and an abandoned motorcycle in Amritsar.
In a separate operation, Punjab Police and BSF recovered 2.1 kg of heroin and 21 sophisticated pistols with ammunition in Fazilka.
The operations were based on actionable intelligence and joint efforts to prevent cross-border smuggling.
Two individuals were detained in Amritsar, and investigations are ongoing to trace the absconding accused and uncover the wider conspiracy.
Cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
