Indian Supreme Court Success in Reducing Case Backlog
Imagine the Supreme Court has a lot of cases, like a huge pile of homework.
To get through them faster, the court tried some new things.
They made it easier to check if cases were ready, used computers to help, and set aside special times to deal with older cases.
They also created a system to sort cases into different types, which helps everyone understand the backlog.
These changes helped the court solve more cases than they received, which is like finishing more homework than you're assigned!
The Supreme Court of India (SC) reduced its case pendency by 4.83% in about 100 days.
The Court improved its case clearance ratio (CCR) to 106.60%, a 9.32% increase from the previous year.
Steps included streamlining case verification, reintroducing a second Registrar’s Court, and managing urgent listing requests.
Differentiated Case Management prioritized unlisted and old cases, leading to quicker disposals.
The revamping of the Case Categorization Framework now classifies cases into 48 categories and 182 sub-categories.
