Pakistan to Sell 100% Stake in PIA
Pakistan is going to sell all of its shares in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) because the companies that want to buy it want to be in complete control.
The government will first sell 75% of the shares, and the winner can buy the rest later.
The money from the sale will mostly go back into PIA to help it improve.
PIA has some old debts, but the government has moved most of them to a different company.
PIA has some planes that can fly and some that can't, but it has important agreements with many countries.
The government is trying to make PIA better by letting a new company take over and invest in it.
Pakistan will sell 100% of its stake in PIA, initially offering 75% with an option to buy the remaining 25% at a 12% premium.
The government will receive 7.5% of the bid amount in cash, with 92.5% reinvested into PIA for revival.
Bidding is scheduled for December 23, with major business groups like Lucky Cement Consortium and Fauji Fertiliser participating.
PIA has 34 aircraft, of which only 18 are airworthy, but holds valuable landing slots and air service agreements with 97 countries.
The government has moved PkR 654 billion of PIA's debt to a holding company, leaving PkR 26 billion in taxes and airport charges for the new owners.
