Tamil Nadu's 2025 Bird Census Shows Slight Dip
Tamil Nadu did a survey of birds in 2025 and found many of them.
There were about 5.52 lakh wetland birds and 2.32 lakh land birds.
Many birds travel long distances.
While the overall number of birds is slightly down from 2024, the variety of species is still high, which shows that the habitats are still good for birds.
The government will monitor birds all year round and include the public to protect them.
The 2025 census found 5.52 lakh wetland birds from 397 species.
The census also recorded 2.32 lakh terrestrial birds from 401 species.
The count included 1,13,606 migratory birds.
The census recorded 26 endangered and 17 nocturnal bird species.
The forest department will shift to year-round bird monitoring.
