Pakistani LTV Holders Rush to Apply Under CAA and Register Online
People from Pakistan who have been living in India on long-term visas (LTVs) are now required to apply again through an online portal.
This is a new rule from the government.
They need to fill out their information on the portal, including whether they've applied for Indian citizenship.
Many of them are also applying for citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
This Act provides a quicker way for certain religious groups, who came to India before 2014, to get citizenship.
These groups include Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis, Buddhists, and Christians from Pakistan.
They hope this will help them stay in India.
Volunteers are helping people fill out the online forms at the Sindh-Hind Panchayat office.
Pakistani citizens with LTVs are applying to a new online portal mandated by the government.
The requirement follows government exit orders for Pakistani citizens after an incident.
LTV holders must apply afresh or risk cancellation of their visas.
The application window opened on May 10 and closes on July 10.
Eligible applicants are also applying under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
