Maharashtra FDA Bans Junk Food from School Canteens

Maharashtra FDA Bans Junk Food from School Canteens

The government in Maharashtra, India, has a team that checks that the food people eat is clean and safe.

The leader of that team is Tukaram Mundhe, nicknamed 'Singham' because he is very strict.

His team inspected many restaurants, clubs and school canteens and found that some were not clean or healthy.

So they told school canteens to stop selling chocolates, chips, sugary drinks and other junk food.

Now school canteens should offer healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, pulses and milk.

Many parents and doctors are happy because they want children to eat healthy food.

Some people are upset and say the food team is being too harsh and unfair.

Mundhe says the rules apply to everyone alike and no one gets special treatment.

The law allows food safety officers to suspend places quickly if the food is a serious danger to health.

Parents, schools and food businesses are being asked to work together so children grow up healthy.
