Sanjeev Khirwar Faces Scrutiny After Deadly Satya Niketan Collapse

Sanjeev Khirwar is the commissioner of Delhi’s municipal corporation.

A five-storey building used for student housing collapsed in Satya Niketan.

At least seven people died.

Some civil and student groups want Khirwar to resign.

They say the city must do more to stop unsafe and unauthorised buildings.

The government ordered an inquiry and an FIR after the collapse.

The MCD suspended five officials and ordered illegal buildings taller than four floors to be sealed.

Khirwar said the MCD regularly finds and removes unauthorised buildings.

He was also known for a 2022 controversy about taking his dog to Thyagaraj Stadium, an allegation he denied as affecting athletes’ training.
