Indian Power Sector Coal Imports Hit 15-Month High Amid Heat

India’s power companies bought much more coal in August.

They imported 5.52 million metric tons.

That was 85.6% more than in August the year before.

It was also the highest amount since May 2025.

Imports have increased for three months in a row.

The main reason was hotter weather.

Hot weather made people use more electricity.

A local coal trader called iEnergy Natural Resources provided the figures.
