B-1 and B-2 Bombers to Serve Longer During B-21 Transition

B-1 and B-2 Bombers to Serve Longer During B-21 Transition

The US Air Force has older bombers called the B-1 and B-2.

It plans to use them for longer than previously expected.

Officials have not said exactly when they will stop using them.

The Air Force will continue upgrading and investing in both aircraft.

At the same time, it is preparing a newer bomber called the B-21 Raider.

The plan calls for at least 100 B-21 aircraft.

These newer planes will eventually replace the B-1 and B-2.

The older bombers are expected to retire over the next decade.
