India’s Car Market Rebounds on SUVs and Tax Cuts

India’s Car Market Rebounds on SUVs and Tax Cuts

India’s car market sold many more vehicles in the first half of FY27 than it did a year earlier.

The four biggest carmakers sold 2.1 million vehicles, which was a 30.2% increase.

A GST tax cut made cars more affordable for buyers.

Many people continued choosing SUVs, but hatchbacks also became more popular again.

Maruti Suzuki’s hatchback sales increased by 41%.

New car models also encouraged people to buy vehicles.

Electric, CNG and petrol or diesel choices gave customers more options.

Sales may keep rising in the second half, but the growth percentage could be smaller because last year’s tax-cut boost will already be included in comparisons.
