840 Companies Close in Nashik; MP Questions Worker Protection Measures
Many companies in a city called Nashik in India have closed down.
Over the last five years, 840 companies closed or were removed from official records there.
Across the whole state of Maharashtra, more than 36,000 companies closed.
A leader named Rajabhau Waje, who represents Nashik in Parliament, asked the government about this.
He wanted to know if workers got the money they were owed, like their savings funds, gratuity and wages.
The government said it does not keep records on how many workers were affected.
Waje also asked how many new companies opened during the same time.
The government's answer did not clearly compare new companies with the ones that closed.
Waje says the government must protect existing businesses and workers, not just announce new industries.
840 private companies in Nashik were closed or struck off the register during the last five financial years.
A total of 36,211 private companies across Maharashtra were recorded as closed in the same period.
MP Rajabhau Waje questioned whether workers received legal dues such as provident fund, gratuity and pending wages after closures.
The Centre said it does not maintain data on workers affected by the closure of private companies.
Waje asked how many new industries, investments and jobs were created versus companies shut down, but no clear comparative data was provided.
