Jaipur Fire Raises Questions Over Fire Safety Inspections
A large fire broke out at Sethi Complex in Jaipur’s Tripolia Bazaar.
It spread through clothing shops, warehouses, plastic-goods stores and bangle shops.
Firefighters used more than 15 vehicles to battle the flames.
Narrow lanes and many stored goods made the rescue difficult.
Police currently suspect that an electrical short circuit may have started the fire.
Some traders believe welding work on an upper floor may have caused a spark, but this has not been proved.
Traders also said the building’s fire-safety equipment did not work during the blaze.
Officials will investigate the fire’s cause, the building’s Fire NOC and the extent of the damage.
A fire at Sethi Complex in Tripolia Bazaar spread to more than 20 shops and warehouses.
The blaze began around 7 a.m., with more than 15 fire brigade vehicles later involved.
Police said a short circuit was the preliminary suspected cause, while welding-related claims remain unverified.
Kishanpole MLA Amin Kagzi called for re-examination of Fire NOCs in Jaipur’s Walled City.
Traders alleged installed fire-safety equipment was nonfunctional and that construction and encroachments had gone unchecked.
